Do you share in our passion and ambition to deliver high quality, compassionate and ‘life changing’ therapies to ‘unlock’ the potential of disabled children?

Do you crave your own desk, personal space, onsite parking and free tea and coffee?

Then take a step towards Brainwave...

Our therapists have the opportunity and time to thoroughly get to know the families and children that they work allowing them to find out what matters to them as a family, assess and trial therapy and to build a rapport. This gives the therapist job satisfaction that can be difficult to find elsewhere and really lets them know that they are making a difference.

We are seeking to appoint a Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to join our team. The successful candidate will experience of using a range of interventions and strategies to support complex communication needs of children with learning disabilities and profound and multiple learning disabilities.

Families attend for either a one-day initial assessment or reassessment and during that time, you will get to know them and their children well, allowing you to find out what matters to them. You will have an opportunity to talk with parents, assess and trial therapy and build a rapport with a child, which our team find both enjoyable and rewarding. Having the time to talk through the programme of activities with families is invaluable, as you can not only demonstrate and teach these but discuss the rationale behind why you have suggested them too.

It is an exciting time to be joining us, as we head towards celebrating our 40th year of providing life-changing therapies for disabled children and their families. This could be anything from a child walking or feeding themselves, to counting or forming sentences.

We are an innovative and creative national charity and during the pandemic developed Brainwave Online - www.brainwave.org.uk/brainwave-online so that we could continue providing support, whilst we had to temporarily suspend our face-to-service.

Our multi-disciplinary therapy team predominantly work with children from birth to 12 years who have a range of conditions and diagnoses including:

• Cerebral Palsy
• Developmental Delay
• Autism
• Brain Injury
• Down’s syndrome
• Other genetic conditions, and children with no formal diagnosis.

This is what Claire; a Speech and Language Therapist with Brainwave says:

‘I had fallen out of love with speech and language therapy and was on the verge of leaving the profession. Brainwave has given me back my passion for SLT and I am so pleased I applied for the post.

I truly love working here, what we do here is brilliant and I feel that I really make a difference to the lives of children and their families. Moving from the public sector to a charity has given me and my family a better quality of life. No longer do I have to drive miles each day, carry assessments around and park away from my workplace. I have my own desk where I can leave personal things like mugs on! My mug has survived 3 years now – unheard of in shared kitchens! For me, these things make such a big difference to my overall well-being, which significantly increases my enjoyment of work and the outcomes I achieve.’

We would love the opportunity to show you around our South West Centre. If you would like to arrange a visit please contact
