Speech Therapy Course Summary:
Run by Dawn Ralph ( Specialist Speech and Language Therapist) and Jacqui Rochester (Autism Practitioner) who published their book Building Language Using Lego® Bricks in August 2016
This intervention has been developed based on the research into Lego® Therapy in the UK and the USA. It allows the approach to be used with clients who do not have the linguistic skills to access it in it’s original form.
With the use of visual aids, checklists and assessments Dawn and Jacqui have created this easily accessible therapy suitable for children and young adults with speech, language & communication needs including: autism, developmental delay, selective mutism, language disorder, anxiety disorders and pre & non-verbal communicators. It can also be used with primary age children to promote developmental skills e.g. turn-taking, joint attention, colour and shape recognition,
The Intervention Aims To:
* Facilitate social communication skills, e.g. joint attention, eye contact, turn taking
* Develop understanding and use of basic concepts e.g. colour, shape, size and positional language
* Increase the number of information-carrying words understood (key words)
* Develop communication repair skills (when something has gone wrong, how do I fix it?)
In this one day workshop Dawn and Jacqui will present the evidence base and will guide you through the process of setting up and delivering sessions in your workplace. You will
learn how to use this fun, innovative and powerful intervention to develop receptive & expressive language and improve social communication skills. Practical sessions
and shared case studies will ensure you leave the workshop equipped to set up and run the intervention with your clients.
