My Profile Summary - Please do contact me for an up-to-date copy of my resume:
I have been practising as a Speech Therapist in South Africa for a little over 4 years, in the private, public and academic sectors. Each experience I’ve had has provided me with different sets of challenges but all of them have equipped me with useful skills and important lessons that I aim to carry into everything I do. In the past few years I have worked with a range of patients assessing and treating both adults and children in schools, hospitals and therapy centers. I have also completed my Masters degree at The University of Cape Town, exploring communication environments for optimal language learning in kindergarten classrooms.
In this time I have developed a keen interest and immense passion for working with children, particularly those with special needs. This passion extends into community outreach and working closely with families to empower them in improving their children’s language and communication abilities. It is such a gift to be a part of that journey and I am grateful for all the experiences I have had working with families thus far.
Currently, I work at a wonderful NGO and special needs school as the school SLT within a multi disciplinary team. I am incredibly happy in my position; however, I am also keen on working in different countries to gain more experience and knowledge. It has been a long standing desire of mine to practice internationally.
I am a caring, reliable and hardworking individual and feel that I build a good rapport with my clients as well as with parents and team members. I am a well disciplined individual who always follows procedures and protocols. Furthermore, I maintain a professional manner at all times. During my time working within paediatrics I have learnt how to have a holistic approach to care whilst maintaining the dignity, privacy and individuality of service users.
On a personal level I am committed to my own professional development and prepared to learn new skills and update my qualifications when necessary. In my role, I have explored various approaches to therapy that includes DIR Floortime and using Makaton Sign Language to communicate. I am very passionate about my job and look forward to broadening my horizons.
