My Profile Summary - Please contact me for an up-to-date copy of my resume:
I would like to express my strongest interest in the Speech and Language therapist assistant, working either in a mainstream or special education school as well as in a private clinic. This September I will receive my master’s degree in Language Sciences (with specialization in Neuroscience and Communication) from University College of London (UCL). During my undergraduate studies, I have had the opportunity to evaluate and treat children with Down Syndrome and dysarthria, learning and intellectual disabilities through mandatory clinical observations under the supervision of my professor. In my six-month internship as a part of my undergraduate degree, I carried out structures observation and treatment of children with dyspraxia, dysphagia and dysarthria under the supervision of the speech and language therapist. I believe my experience and skills would make me an excellent speech-language therapist assistant for children’s services, due to my specialization in preschool and school-aged children.
After my graduation, I have continued working in places specialized in neurodevelopmental disorders and communication difficulties. Thus, I have extensive experience with children with cerebral palsy in combination with visual impairments and children with ASD. As a volunteer at “AMYMONI” rehabilitation center I worked as a primer therapist twice per week under the guidance of the speech therapist with or without being present, providing treatment based on the principles of “visual stimulation” to a 13-year-old boy with ASD, articulatory disorders, visual and multiple disabilities. At “ELEPAP” I ran group therapy sessions, applying some principles of music therapy and intensive interaction, under the supervision of the speech therapist with or without being present to pre-school children with cerebral palsy. Additionally, I developed my skills and techniques in feeding based on the feeding maneuvers of BOBATH, by assisting children with cerebral palsy during meal times.
At my internship, I used to record and write reports for a specific case study which included into my final thesis. To date, I am recording and collecting data well as booking appointments for my dissertation in a project with applying tDCS to adults who stutter.
I am committed to life-long learning, as evidenced by the many workshops and training courses I have consistently attended, including the basic seminar in MAKATON, PECS, in intensive interaction and feeding therapy (A sensory-motor approach). Finally, I am capable of managing the stress of clients with psychiatric issues due to severe autism.
I am confident that my practical experience working with preschool and school-aged children with neurodevelopmental disorders would make me an asset to your school or clinic. I have enclosed my CV. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
