My Profile Summary - Please do contact me for an up-to-date copy of my resume:
I am an enthusiastic, hard-working and friendly person. I am a qualified Speech and Language Therapist and have just finished a one and a half year position in a private, specialist school for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
My caseload included KS3 and KS4 students with complex speech, language and communication needs and/or Aspergers Syndrome, and some challenging behaviours. I worked alongside the class teacher to plan and deliver the curriculum, most specifically Life Skills, English and PSHE lessons. My role here included working in partnership with educational staff, occupational therapists and mental health teams to deliver sessions and plan targets, helping the students work towards independence. This position has also allowed me to develop my use of an iPad as an integral part of therapy. This position involved a lot of problem solving, and thinking on the spot. Although the student’s behaviours could be challenging, I found the job thoroughly rewarding, and learnt many valuable skills both as a person and a professional.
I am a confident person, and have had to deal with numerous challenging situations in my previous position. Through these and other experiences, I have developed a friendly approach, professional appearance and an ability to put minds at ease with a positive outlook. I am passionate about working with people of ranging ages and abilities, and through experience in various employment and my training as a Speech and Language Therapist; I have developed excellent communication and interpersonal skills. I love working with people, and I am competent in, and confident about working independently.
I am currently travelling and volunteering in South East Asia, and I will be back in the UK in early July. I had always wanted to travel, and I'm incredibly glad I have had the opportunity. My time spent travelling has added to my skill set, and showed me I can adapt to new environments. Travelling has also been challenging at times, and my problem solving skills, and ability to keep calm have really helped me here.
I am really excited to return to the UK and try something new.
